About

A classic story of Inspiration Rooted in Sound

Ross Madsen began developing his interest in quality audio and recordings during high school when exposed to the artists of ‘Pink Floyd’, and their album (LP) ‘The Wall’. Productions like ‘The Wall’ and others examples of its day took full advantage of high quality recording audio equipment, techniques, and post production. By this time recording productions had reached outstanding levels of quality along with home reproduction systems, where even an average home stereo system could deliver a fantastic listening experience. Ross upgraded the home audio system available to him by researching designs of, and then building, his own pair of speakers. These custom speakers driven by a ‘Pioneer SX780’, the appreciation for audio was birthed.

Borrowed Equipment Sets the Stage

With Ross’ brother Greg’s PA, some DJ work was executed. But more importantly, the interest in PA gear was also sparked. Post high school, time was spent hanging out with musician friends, and then drumming with said friends. Here Ross further gained experience with both music and sound. During this time period a friend loaned Ross a 4 track cassette recorder…after some experimenting with this device, a few guitar tracks and a delay unit, the love of recording was spawned.

By 1991 Ross attended ‘The Recording Workshop’ in Chillicothe Ohio. This program, while rather short, provided a solid ground work and knowledge base for future recording and live audio  work. As time progressed, Ross continually researched, sought out, acquired and utilized ever improving audio gear. A jam room grew into a recording studio, and the recording studio attracted more musicians and opportunities.

Fully Submerged in the Industry

Ross met an important colleague one day when wondering into a music equipment store. Inside was Randy Sommers, and he and his partners were at the time closing the location. Randy and Ross hit it off well with lots notes to compare. Randy went on to grow his live sound work as his primary business where Ross was invited to shadow, share with, and assist in many of Randy’s live sound activities and events in the Portland Metropolitan area (see Tech  Audio).
Ross spent over 14 years as an on-staff AV Technician for a growing church. The church and its swelling membership had quickly been outpacing the capabilities of its existing volunteer technicians. Ross provided expertise with the changing demands of an expanding congregation and facility, providing consistent operations and reliable event delivery. Facility systems were upgraded, including new audio, visual and lighting systems. All were designed, installed and operated by Ross Madsen.

Ross continues to provide quality sound services for his clients in a confident, honest, friendly and calm manner.
